Things are looking better for Bon Jovi‘s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame chances. Though the official listing of 2018 inductees won’t be announced until Dec. 13, the band just got a big vote of confidence as they won the Rock Hall’s fan voting.
In recent years, the Rock Hall has opened things up to a fan vote that will make up one of the ballots for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, letting fans vote on the initial long list of potential inductees for the coming year. This year, Bon Jovi led the fan vote all the way from the opening of voting to its conclusion, amassing 1,162,146 votes, being the only act to eclipse the million vote mark.
The Rock Hall revealed the five top vote getters, with Bon Jovi joining Moody Blues, Dire Straits, The Cars and Judas Priest on the “fan ballot” that will be submitted for the Rock Hall’s tabulation. As Cleveland.com points out, the fan vote leader has been inducted every year since the vote has been an option. Past top vote-getters include Rush, KISS, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Chicago and Journey.
As metal has a noticeable lack of presence in the Rock Hall, it’s especially heartening to see Judas Priest get an extra vote thanks to the fans. The band received 538,508 votes. Things don’t look as promising for the hard rocking Rage Against the Machine, as the band finished thirteenth in the fan vote.
The 2018 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction class will be honored during an April 14 ceremony at Cleveland’s Public Hall.
